Total Backup Solutions
The sole purpose of
computer infrastructure is to manipulate and store information.
Therefore it is critical to your business to have proper policy and
standards in place to plan for a disaster. Down time costs you money so
having a tested plan in place will decrease the amount of time your
system is offline if and when something happens that brings your system
down.
There are two areas that you need to cover the basis of data recovery.
The first is a good network backup solution. If you have only one server
in your organization then all important application data and all user
data including but not limited to documents, spreadsheets, databases and
email should be stored on the server. Then there should be backup
software such as the most common, Veritas Backup Exec, in place to
backup up your data on a nightly basis. You should have a tape rotation
of at least five for each day of the week to properly ensure data
integrity.
The next area
that is crucial but often overlooked until the actual disaster takes place
is verifying that the data backups are working. This includes a mock
disaster test to restore the data to verify how long it will take to restore
and that the integrity of the data is in tact when it is restored. All
processes for this should be documented to help assist in the recovery if
and when it happens.
Any critical data that is stored on individual desktop computer is rarely if
ever backed up. So if anything happens to the computer then all data housed
on that station is lost. We recommend storing all this data on a centralized
server or backing up this data on a regular basis to an external hard drive
or tape backup solution.
We can come in and help you identify the critical data on your network. We
also will assist you in implementing a disaster recovery plan to make your
data is being backed up and can easily be restored if something happens to
bring your system down.
